I am delighted to announce that the Walk2012 route is now fully worked-out and available! You can find it on the menu at the top of the page under “The route”. The Games Way is the name of this new long distance path (agreed with the legal folk at LOCOG).
The map shows camp sites for each night, places to eat, and points of interest (at this stage mostly National Trust and RSPB sites) along the way. If you have ideas for other things to add to the map to make it richer please let me know!
You will also find links to the Walk2012 app for Android phones, and Walk2012 on Social Hiking too. I am greatly indebted to Curly and Phil for their sterling efforts.
Sadly you won’t find a link to the OS Getamap site because unfortunately the current version of Getamap is too flaky, which is a real bummer because as well as using the Leisure maps they have a great feature called Find Things To Do – which will show B&Bs, restaurants, cinemas, events, all sorts of things along the way.
Now the route is finalised I can turn my attention to writing the guidebook that won’t be a book or called a guide
From the great feedback you provided I am planning on making a series of sheets – one for each day stage of the walk. I will post up prototypes for comment as I go.
Fantastic news, well done! I am looking forward to having a good browse of the route, and to seeing the non-book non-guide as it develops.
